It was hot…I mean, hot! But there could be no better time for a car wash! First and foremost, a BIG shoutout to Discount Tire on Market Place Blvd in Cumming, GA for allowing us to use their parking lot AND water…they are amazing!
It started off slow but the crew took to the streets and the internet to bring in business, and that business came fast and furious! We are so grateful to each car, truck, van and more than came for a good bath. I remember one awesome lady who only had a few dollars and some coins but she gave us everything she had at the time to donate toward our trip (pretty awesome; she also told us she would visit Browns Bridge on Sunday and give some more…you know what, whether or not she does, I think she is amazing).
Parents came…family came…friends came…and many, many strangers came to support us and get their car washed. We are very grateful.
Check out a short video of our experience (only captured a few of the incredible students and leaders helping out).
How do you start off a mission trip meeting? Well of course, with a Cup Flip challenge. Take a look!
We did do some mission trip type stuff as well but sometimes you just roll with it…and we roll with the best of ‘um! We are so grateful for these students and leaders…counting down the days until we head out to Mexico.
Hello parents, siblings, and friends! My name is Nikki Coalla and I’m so excited to announce that I, along with some other friends of mine, will be your student tour guides throughout this upcoming trip. Here’s a little bit about me: I am a junior at Alpharetta High School but have been going to Brown’s Bridge since I was in kindergarten! This will be my first mission trip EVER and I’m so excited!! I live with my two lovely parents and I have an older brother who is currently studying in Germany. I not only love to write, but I also love to capture my favorite memories with my baby Carry (that’s my camera). I’ll make sure to capture the exciting/amazing things that are going to unfold on this adventure of a lifetime!!
Our meeting tonight was all about assigning pre-trip teams. What are those? Simply teams focused on specific activities up to and through our trip, like Logistics/Car Wash, Blog/Communication, Medical, Vacation Bible School, Spiritual Development, and the brand new HYPE team (yes, it needs to be in all caps). I captured a few pics from the meeting you might enjoy!
After dividing the 40 to 50 or so students into small groups, Derek and Gillian proceeded to share some less well known facts about each small group leader to see if the students could figure out which of these amazing leaders would lead their group. 5 foot 2…a twin, had dinner with a super model, met Garth Brooks, got shot in Jerusalem, swam with the sharks (not on purpose) and many other unique facts. After forming our small groups each group proceeded to our main task of stuffing envelops with our fundraising letters AND taking some time to learn a bit more about each other. The fundraising effort is actually our way of getting the word out there for others to join with us financially on the incredible opportunity to serve in Mexico. We are beyond excited because we know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, God will not only work through us to impact others for His kingdom but work in us as well to understand even more the riches of His love and grace. We are grateful to each one of you who take the time to support our trip…thank-you.
What an incredible day! We had the opportunity to meet with both parents and students today and what a great turnout. We got to hear from Gerald (InsideOut Director at Browns Bridge), Mikaela (globalX), as well as Daniel and I in our trip meeting speaking about trip requirements, safety, financial stuff, and more. After dismissing the parents from our trip meeting we spent a little time “speed dating” where we talk with the person in front of us for one minute answering a random question then rotate to another person. Crazy but fun. We have so much to do over the next few months…can’t wait for our next meeting!
The selection process is complete and students have been notified…FINALLY! It is SO exciting! Tonight is our first meeting and we are pumped! We are starting out with 50 students and 16 leaders…yea, 66 of us heading to Mérida Mexico in July! A few may have to drop out for one reason or another but that is still a bunch of folks! Most of the students on this trip have never been to Mérida…some have never been out of the country. This will be a life changing trip for many. For now, we’re just celebrating with those few who could come out at the last minute to Daniel and Becca’s home. Take a look!
