Parent – Student Meeting

What an incredible day! We had the opportunity to meet with both parents and students today and what a great turnout. We got to hear from Gerald (InsideOut Director at Browns Bridge), Mikaela (globalX), as well as Daniel and I in our trip meeting speaking about trip requirements, safety, financial stuff, and more. After dismissing the parents from our trip meeting we spent a little time “speed dating” where we talk with the person in front of us for one minute answering a random question then rotate to another person. Crazy but fun. We have so much to do over the next few months…can’t wait for our next meeting!

Meet up at the Harper’s House

The selection process is complete and students have been notified…FINALLY! It is SO exciting! Tonight is our first meeting and we are pumped! We are starting out with 50 students and 16 leaders…yea, 66 of us heading to Mérida Mexico in July! A few may have to drop out for one reason or another but that is still a bunch of folks! Most of the students on this trip have never been to Mérida…some have never been out of the country. This will be a life changing trip for many. For now, we’re just celebrating with those few who could come out at the last minute to Daniel and Becca’s home. Take a look!

Our most difficult challenge

With over 500 student mission trip applications at Browns Bridge alone and 200+ available “slots” to fill, the leadership team had an incredible challenge. We so desire that every applicant go on a mission trip but that simply is not possible. The technology we use in this decision making process is second to none…that’s right, we use index cards and fabric covered boards as all the trip leaders come together to fill their boards with student applicants. If we do not know about a student, we call their IO leader or talk with someone who does know them. We do our best to be fair as we select students for each trip. Is it a perfect process? Of course not! But each leader is prayerfully working the process knowing that almost half of these incredible students who applied (many that we know and love) will not make a trip…lots of emotion going on at this meeting. We are in the final selection phase where we tweak the trip selections before notification day. Almost done…
